Geely has unveiled a 2.2MW ultra-fast charger, surpassing BYD's earlier megawatt-level charging announcement and enabling roughly four-minute EV charging for substantial range. The system targets high-power DC fast-charging scenarios and signals a new round of competition among Chinese automakers in ultra-fast charging.
This means commercial customers must reassess high-rate charging demands on cells, battery management systems (BMS), thermal management, and grid capacity. A 2.2MW charger will drive upgrades in battery materials, electrode architecture, cooling systems, and charging protocols, and may accelerate electrification in commercial fleets, ride-hailing, and long-distance travel.
| Specification | Detail |
|---|---|
| Charger Power | 2.2MW |
| Charging Time | Approximately 4 minutes for substantial range |
| Target Segment | High-power DC fast-charging |
